Level 1: Fire Safety Awareness Training

Do we need fire safety training by law?
Yes. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, employers are legally required to ensure all staff receive appropriate fire safety instruction and training. The number and level of fire wardens you need depends on the size and layout of your premises.
How many fire wardens does my business need?
A general rule of thumb is one fire warden per 20 employees, but this depends on the risk level of your premises, the number of floors, and how many people are in the building at any one time. We can advise on this during your consultation.
How often should fire safety training be refreshed?
Most guidance recommends refreshing fire warden training every 12 months, or sooner if your team changes significantly or following a near-miss event. Level 1 awareness training should be provided to all new starters as part of induction.
Can you deliver both courses on the same day?
Yes, in most cases we can combine both levels into a full-day session, running Level 1 in the morning and Level 2 in the afternoon. This is a popular option for businesses who want to train their whole team and fire wardens in one go.
